This really appealled to designer and font geek in me: Obama's victory was only the fourth time that the New York Times has used 96 pt type for a headline.. You may be thinking that's a really sad observation (if you're my wife, for instance), but I think it's an interesting expression of what's big news (and how big...) and also of the evolution of print and information design over the twentieth century.
So can you guess what the other three headlines were? Hint: they're all post-war events, I don't think that pre-fifties type-setters would ever have been so bold, so to speak...
Congratulations to Obama, having a black guy in the White House is indeed historic, though I'm not really so bothered about that; I 'm just glad to see someone in the Big Seat who seems to know how to get things done.
Goodbye Bush, bring on the bold type.
