Keep In Time: Talking Drums and Whispering Vinyl

27 January 2004 - 5:57pm -- Joseph

Please help.

I went to see DJ Shadow in Bristol sometime in 2002. It was a great gig, Thom Yorke turned up as a suprise guest to perform 'Rabbit in your headlights' (his collaboration with DJ Shadow off the first UNKLE album), which was an unexpected extra to a thoroughly enjoyable gig.

Before Shadow's main set, he showed a short film about Dj's collaborating with some legendary funk drummers (the guys who played on all the classic 70's funk tunes which have been heavily sampled).

Being a drummer, I found it very interesting and enjoyable (apart from the meat-head tosser in the audience near us, who kept shouting 'shut up, play some records' or some other such nonsense. Fool.)

Anyway, I'm not sure whether he showed the whole thing or not, but either way, i would very much like to see it again.

I've done some searching on the web, and I think the film was called 'Keep In Time: Talking Drums and Whispering Vinyl'. The only real reference to it I can find is on the website for the Adelaide International Film Festival 2003. They were showing it, and list the Director as 'B+', which is a very cool hip hop name, but impossible to do a web search on.

Neither the film nor the director are listed in IMDB, as it's only a small independent film. So if anyone knows how to get hold of this film in any form whatsoever, please let me know.

At least now I have a record of what the thing was called, that's one more piece of scrap paper I can throw away...
