I came home yesterday to find Marceline sitting on the veranda. She greeted me excitedly:
"Naomi's walking, Naomi's walking!"
"Excellent, let's see!" I said, (because a child's every development should obviously be available for exhibition at any given moment for the entertainment of any adult who may demand it).
So I was treated to a little demonstration. First tentative steps these are not; it's more like a four-step lunge with optional 90° twist. She can't get far as yet, but she's mastering it, so I think she'll be toddling around within a week or so. Hev then returned from her meeting and a repeat-performance was demanded and duly delivered (though Naomi clearly hasn't quite grasped the meaning of clapping, so burst into tears when Hev clapped her!)
Hev and I are both very proud of the little drooler (not that we have any right to be, she's not our child, but she was born the day after we arrived here, so we've lived with her and watched her grow these last ten months).
We'd hoped that she would walk and/or talk before we left, and she's not let us down.
Our work here is done...
