So we've drawn Sweden in the group stages of the World Cup again.
A few hours before the draw, a friend of mine remarked to me that whatever the outcome, the press would probably make it out as the Group of Death. In fact, the tabloids have jumped the other way, going for the 'east peasy' angle.
This is not good. Firstly, it raises expectations, which were already sky high. Secondly, it should be obvious by now that England play better against the good teams, but lack the ability to dispense with so-called 'lesser' teams. Then of course, there's the fact that altough teams like Tinidad and Tobago aren't big names, they've qualified for the Cup on merit, and would no doubt relish getting one over on the 'big' teams.
Having said all that, I think we can win the World Cup. Whether we will is another matter, but if you're going to win the thing, you've got to be good enough to beat whoever's in your group.
Good enough, and lucky enough...
