The outrage following Janet Jackson's accidental exposure during the Superbowl halftime entertainment would amuse me if it wasn't so starkly indicative of a deep sickness within U.S. society. There is a puritanical (and given the divorce rate, highly hypocritical) attitude to anything sexual.
In this twisted value system, Clinton is a BAD GUY, because he can't keep his cigar to himslef, whereas George Dubya is a GOOD GUY, because he spouts nonsensical pseudo-moral patriotic rhetoric, while selling his troops, his country and the world environment down the river (presumably on a logging boat...).
However, it's worth remembering that the U.S. is a jolly big place, and that there's plenty of U.S. citizens who are painfully aware of the reality of the situation. I was particluarly amused and heartened by bush in 30 seconds, a political advertising contest to come up with a 30 second anti-bush film. The winner and finalist films are on the site. They're all good, some of them are brilliant, and they gave me hope that there's life over there after all.
