John Peel

I've just realised I never did post an entry about John Peel.

I think maybe I thought I had nothing to say that hadn't already been said (which is certainly true), or maybe I just got distracted by my own minor injuries.

Either way, I now feel like I should mark the passing of a man who is a loss to anyone who cares at all about music (or may be that should just be 'cares at all'...)

I feel like saying the man's a genius, but I don't think that's strictly true. He wasn't extraordinary due to any particular exceptional ability. It was more just that he had a genuine passion (mostly for music, but also for Football, people, life in general), and refused to have his passion deflected and reduced by the complexities and pressures of modern life.

That's much more impressive and important than mere genius.
