The other week I had a blow-out on the back wheel of my bike. I was quite suprised, as I didn't realise you could get blow outs on a push bike, punctures yep, but a blow out? The back wheel just went bang and was completely flat.
Some time ago, I was told by a bike mechanic that two major components would need replacing soon (the bottom bracket and something else, can't remember what). At this point I decided not to spend any more money repairing the bike, as it was a fairly cheap bike, and has served me well for five years (I reckon I've covered nearly 4000 miles on it), but maybe retirement was nearing...
So, I took the blow out as the last straw and started looking for a new bike. When I got the last bike, I deliberately got a sensible, boring bike so that is was less likely to get nicked (and because I wasn't sure if I'd actually stick at cycling to work ).
Well, I cycle to work more often than not and it's now a ~9 mile round trip, so reckon I've earned the right to a cool bike. Also I've got secure parking at both home and work now, so hopefully my bike won't get nicked (touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood...)
So, after some um'ing and ah'ing, and a bit of research - new toy! I got a Ridgeback Cyclone from their 'switch' range (tough street racers with what it takes to survive or some nonsense) which is reet nice. Saddle's going to take a little getting used to, but basically I'm well chuffed.
So, old bike, you have served me well and I salute you. New bike, you're very nice and new (not shiny though - matt paint job, Hev wasn't impressed), I hope you prove to be as reliable and long-lasting as your predecessor (only cooler looking and a bit faster).
Anyone want a free bike? Needs some work...
