I see a small group of religious extremists have once again infringed on the freedom of the general public by creating a culture of fear.
I refer of course to the small number of 'Christian activists' (read: bandwagon jumpers) who have lobbied leading supermarket chains to refuse to stock the Jerry Springer: The Opera DVD from the shelves. Apparently there's now a backlash campaign to stop this ridiculous cencorship. If this sort of thing isn't prevented, we'll end up in the same situation as the U.S., where the TV networks are so terrified of offending these self-proclaimed moral custodians that they rarely dare to show anything that challenges America's self deluded view of itself.
(As an aside of American self-delusion, I read a very interesting article on GuardianUnlimited about America's denial of it's sports hooliganism problem yesterday ).
Now, I haven't seen this Jerry Springer DVD (something I have in common with just about everyone who's objecting to it, it would seem), but since no-one's complaining that incites hatred or violence against anyone, I don't see there's any grounds to ban it. If it presents ideas in a way that you don't like, then don't watch it. You get to have your own opinion, and so does everyone else.
That's how it's meant to work, right?...

Wow! Anonymous commenter (at top) - you should have left your name. Being the offspring of Jerry Springer is nothing to be ashamed of!
