The demise of Purple Fergie

29 March 2004 - 12:57pm -- Joseph

Well, it's official - Arsenal are the Premiership top dogs. Not that anyone's really doubted it all season, but Man Utd failing to end Arsenal's unbeaten run, with the record-breaking that entails, just feels like a defining moment to me.
Despite the current form of the two teams, I could help feeling that Fergie might be able to galvinize his players to ruin the party. His failure to do so shows not only how far Arsenal of come in terms of character, but also how much United have lost.

Man United are meant to be like Marmite - you either love them or hate tham. I've never felt that strongly about either. However, I find Fergie's soured-faced, mean-spirited arrogance utterly distasteful, so I find it quite amusing to watch him out-stay his welcome as his attempts to rebuild his team crumble around him.

Of course, this is all going to sound quite premature if Man utd. come back fighting and stuff arsenal in the FA cup semi-final next weekend....
