I hate Ikea

25 June 2008 - 9:10am -- Joseph

I really do...

Comments

cost of driving out to IKEA only to find they've got most but not all of the constituent bits of desired wardrobes: £25

number of times we tried to order desired wardrobes online, only to find they've got most but not all (etc. etc.): ~3

number of times eventual delivery date changed: ~2

margin of error allowed in construction of said wardrobes to avoid revealing items for the cheap, chipboard-veneered tat that they are: very little

number of evenings eaten up by construction of 'easy-assemble' furniture: 4 and counting...

Value of all those hours of my life I'll never get back: priceless...

Yes I am well aware of the problem of poor stock control. Even checking on the internet does not confirm if everything you want is in stock, Especially when buying, as in my case, four kitchen chairs. Web site says 'In stock'. Fact - one in stock. Not much good when I want four and drove 3 hour round trip.

Consider yourself lucky, we made the mistake of ordering our sofa from them...

Number of times delivery company called to say we would be getting the sofa the next day, then completely failed to turn up ~ 4

No. of days annual leave wasted waiting for a delivery that didn't arrive ~ 3 (we just didn't believe them by the last time!)

No. of times delivery company told us to F*** off (literally!) when we phoned to ask them why they were incompetent ~ 2

Num of months between order and eventual delivery, spent sitting on the floor whilst the cats slept in our only 2 armchairs ~ approx 6.

Needless to say, I will never use the Ikea delivery service again and would warn anyone else to be very wary of it.
