Beat the Lard

22 July 2008 - 3:09pm -- Joseph

I told you I was fit...

Apparently drummers are as fit as Premiership footballers, according to some study. Brilliant, I've been wasting my time doing all that running; I should just play drums more...

Playing drums is hard work, it's true. They're suggesting that this is a way to make exercise more interesting and save us from a generation of fat kids. Fair enough, but they seem to forget that playing drums isn't the most convenient pastime in the world:

Name that kitten in one

27 May 2008 - 4:58pm -- Joseph

This weekend Hev and I will be taking delivery of two ten-week-old kittens. They're both female (we think, apparently it's difficult to tell when they're that small...)

We've been thinking of getting kittens for a while; since we were in Cameroon in fact. At that time I promised Didimus that we'd name a cat after him when we got one (it's only fair, he allowed us to name his first born son...)

Only trouble is, it looks like both kittens are girls...

Can you name a girl cat Didimus?

So please help me, I need:

China: East of Sweden

15 May 2008 - 10:12am -- Joseph

Last week we returned from a three week (ish) tour of China. We had an a great time; obviously China is an amazing place and we got to see many of the well known attractions, but also we had an excellent group of people on our tour. We all got on really well, a lot of time was dedicated to the British and American contingent introducing the Scandinavian section to some niche words and phrases in colloquial English. In return, the Swedes taught us how to complete a Rubik's Cube and serenaded us with with close-harmony renditions of Abba's back catalogue.

Everyone's a winner.

Hong Kong, phewee...

19 April 2008 - 1:55pm -- Joseph

We've arrived safely in Hong Kong, all went smoothly until the landing, there was a typhoon over Hong Kong, so the landing was more than a little bumpy; lots of people throwing up and a few scary jolts. We landed fine though, and were met by Hev's friend Alex, our hosts for our first few days here, and very welcoming they have been too; a welcome reception after a bumpy ride...

We're in!

14 March 2008 - 6:35pm -- Joseph

We've finally moved house! After months of waiting, weeks of delays, many days of packing and several hours of lifting, shifting and cleaning, we are finally in out new house.

Grand.

All the credit must go to Heather, who as usual organised everything. Hev, you're a star.

A housewarming party will be forthcoming in due course, but we have a fair bit of unpacking and a spot of decorating to do first.

Actually, we may put off the decorating until after the party...

Trouble at Mill

3 March 2008 - 5:39pm -- Joseph

This past week has seen strikes and rioting in Cameroon to a degree not seen since the early nineties. Prompted by rising fuel prices, the taxi driver went on strike. If you think that doesn't sound like a big deal, consider that taxis make up easily 75% of all traffic in most parts of Cameroon and you will soon picture a country at a virtual stand-still.

Hear the Lions roar!

7 February 2008 - 1:21pm -- Joseph

I can just imagine the scene in Bosco's bar in Wotolo right now: they'll be going absolutely mental...

Cameroon are through to the final. I couldn't watch the game, I was following it via the Guardian football website, but it sounds like they were a little lucky, as Ghana had the best of the game and Cameroon's defence was suspect, as usual. But who cares! they're through!

The final's on Sunday, now that I will be watching...

Up the Lions!
