Pixies Pixies Pixies!!!

6 February 2004 - 5:32pm -- Joseph

Wahoo!!

The Pixies have confirmed that they are reforming, and more importantly, playing gigs in the UK.

I've got slightly mixed feelings about this, after all, there was a reason they broke up in the first place, and I'm not sure what their reason is for re-forming (a friend of mine says it's because Dave Lovering can't find any other work, but that's probably just him being cruel...)

Also, the reason that the Pixies are so well thought of is that they quit while they were ahead (and only just, Trompe Le Monde was, well, you know, okaaay...).

Superbowl boob

4 February 2004 - 2:56pm -- Joseph

The outrage following Janet Jackson's accidental exposure during the Superbowl halftime entertainment would amuse me if it wasn't so starkly indicative of a deep sickness within U.S. society. There is a puritanical (and given the divorce rate, highly hypocritical) attitude to anything sexual.

Keep In Time: Talking Drums and Whispering Vinyl

27 January 2004 - 5:57pm -- Joseph

Please help.

I went to see DJ Shadow in Bristol sometime in 2002. It was a great gig, Thom Yorke turned up as a suprise guest to perform 'Rabbit in your headlights' (his collaboration with DJ Shadow off the first UNKLE album), which was an unexpected extra to a thoroughly enjoyable gig.

Before Shadow's main set, he showed a short film about Dj's collaborating with some legendary funk drummers (the guys who played on all the classic 70's funk tunes which have been heavily sampled).

Hello America (the lights are on, is there anyone home?)

21 January 2004 - 1:28pm -- Joseph

A brief word on the recent 'security alert' caused by a British student joking that she had a bomb in her bag. Now, obviously this was not a particularly bright thing to do.

However, Ms. Marson won't be the first person to be tempted into such an outburst by the unbelievable tedium of paranoid and inept airport security procedures (indeed I believe that none other than Robert Jackson, Conservative MP for Wantage made just such a gaffe some years ago, the bafoon...).

However, I digress.

Avoiding chilli burn

20 January 2004 - 2:46pm -- Joseph

Over Christmas I discovered a useful technique for avoiding chili burn. You know, when you cut up chillies and then rub your eyes, or touch other sensitive parts, and wish you hadn't? I find it hard to get the chilli off my hands, soap and water doesn't seem to work to well. Then it hit me... Chilli dissolves in fat (which is why yoghurt drinks and sour cream cool the palette much more effectively than drinking water or beer). So, to get the chilli off your hands, 'wash' them with olive oil, (or any other oil-based substance). Hey presto! No more sting. So there you go....

iPod lust

9 January 2004 - 3:36pm -- Joseph

For some time I've been mulling over whether or not to get an iPod (a decision made easier to delay because currently I don't have the money for one...). However, at some point I'm due some back pay, and this would go some way to finacing the purchase of that most desireable of gadgets.

Now, I appreciate a cool gadget as much as the next bloke, but I'm not as obsessed as some. Also, it recently occurred to me that most of what I wanted an iPod for could simply be achieved with iTunes.

Seasons greetings and the Christmas no. one

23 December 2003 - 6:46pm -- Joseph

Well the Christmas period is in full swing, Christmas parties, etc. I missed mine however, as I had a bad head cold last week, which gave me a splitting headache for most of the week. Oh well, I'll have to wait 'til next year to make a fool of myself....

To continue the emerging themes of babies and restaurants in Kidlington, we spent the weekend checking out restaurants and babies.
